These photos were taken on Memorial Day 2006 in a cemetery in Lamoni, Iowa, USA.
Every year they raise a flag for each veteran buried in the cemetery which goes back to the 1800s. Lamoni is a small town and it’s surprising the sheer number of flags that decorate the cemetery. There’s no place where you can see all the flags, so even the photos that show many flags don’t show even half.
The flags each have the name of the veteran written on the spine. Because I don’t know how these images will be used, I’ve decided to blur out their names on the two photos where they were readable.
I’ve had these images packed in this zip file now for two years. I got them ready and then hesitated. I’m neither a hyper-patriotic American nor a flag burner. I’ll probably hate all of the images made from these photos. But I am a stock photographer! So here they are.
